Shopping local nationally through the eyes of one cross-country traveler.

I’ve always loved farmers markets. The smells, the pace, the passions and the sense of community. So much to discover as you mill about from tent to tent.  Wherever I’ve lived in the world or visited, whether it was New York, London, Germany, Singapore or during my recent year-long trip across the United States, I made it a point to visit farmers market within the first few days of crossing the state or country line.

There is no better place to capture the local spirit and flavors of a city, the sense of the community that exists in it and the strength of its entrepreneurial heartbeat, than under the tents of farmers market.

I’ve been to hundreds of markets, especially during the past year that our family has been traveling across the United States stopping in cities along in the Northeast through the south Midwest southern Southwest and through California up to West Coast and back.

Coming from New York you think you’ve seen it all because New York is packed with culture. But what we quickly realized is that each part of the United States has a cultural nuance that despite teeming with international culture, NYC just doesn’t have.

During our travels and specifically at these markets, we met so many incredible people with passion, talent and incredible commitment. It takes a pretty dedicated person to spend hours every weekend, many times in the hot sun or cold and rainy days because they want to share their heart and dreams with their community. It was such a beautiful thing to continuously encounter such diverse personalities and  perspectives! It inspired me to create The Farmers Finds as a way to share the stories and products of so many fabulous makers.

Below is a list of some of my favorite farmers markets across the United States. It’s just a start. I have many more to go! I hope you enjoy visiting them as much as I did.

I’d love you to share your favorite markets, makers and market tips in the comments! Where should The Farmers Finds visit next? email us at service@thefarmersfinds.com
